GRAMMAR

Present Continuous Tense

O present continuous é formado pelo verbo to  be no presente mais o gerúndio do verbo principal.

Ex.: I am playing football.

AM - verb TO BE

PLAYING - main verb in the gerund (verbo principal no gerúndio)


Observe o verbo read no simple present e no present continuous tense:

He, she reads                      He, she is reading

Can/Could


GRAMMAR

Verbo Can
(verbo Poder)

O verbo Can é auxiliar e defectivo. Significa poder no sentido de capacidade física ou mental. Não recebe s na 3ª pessoa do singular do presente do indicativo.

Present Tense
I can (eu posso)
You can (você pode)
He can (ele pode)
She can (ela pode)
It can (ele/ela pode)
We can (nós podemos)
You can (vocês podem)
They can (eles/elas podem)

Past Tense
I could (eu podia)
You could (você podia)
He could (ele podia)

Can posssui três formas negativas

1-How often...?=com que freqüência? Quantas vezes...?
How often do you go to the movies? (com que freqüência você vai ao cinema?)
2-Who...?=quem...?
Who stole your car?(Quem roubou seu carro?)
Who knows the thief?(Quem conhece o ladrão?)
Obs: com o pronome sujeito who, a pergunta é direta. Dispensamos o emprego do auxiliar (do, does, did).
3-When...?=quando?
When did John buy the car? (Quando João comprou o carro?)
4-Where...?=onde?
Where did John leave the car? (Onde João deixou o carro?)
5-What...?=qual...?
What is the matter with John? (Qual é o problema com João?)
6-Which...?=qual...?
I have two car. Which do you prefer? (Eu tenho dois carros. Qual deles você prefere?)
Obs: o pronome which denota escolha.

Who stole my car?
John Milton bought a beautiful car last year. The car has been a very useful means of transportation for John. Every day he goes to work in his car. He often uses it to go for a picnic on Sundays.
But do you know what happened to John’s car last Monday?
John went to work in his car as usual but forgot to lock it. He some times forgets to lock it... and when He returned from work the car was not in the street.
Somebody stole it a few hours before.
