Imperative

 Imperative form 

O “imperative é o tempo verbal em inglês usado para expressar uma ordem, um pedido, dar instruções, e até mesmo para aconselhar alguém. Como formar o imperativo? Basta apenas usar o verbo em inglês no infinitivo sem “to” e sem conjugação. 

Close the door when you leave. (Feche a porta quando sair.) 

Fill in the blanks. (Preencha os espaços em branco.) 

O uso do imperativo costuma ser bastante direto e, às vezes, pode soar meio rude e sem educação. Então, preste sempre atenção ao contexto quando usar. Se for um pedido, por exemplo, para amenizar e não ser grosseiro, opte por usar “please” (por favor em inglês): 

Turn the TV down, please. (Diminua o volume da TV, por favor.) 

Usos do imperativo em inglês Existem diversas situações do dia a dia em que encontramos frases no imperativo. 

Por exemplo, em placas de sinalização: 

Stop (pare), 

Push (empurre), 

Insert the coin (insira a moeda). 

Os manuais de instrução e receitas culinárias, por exemplo, também são cheios deles. E, se você estiver falando sobre processos que devem seguir uma ordem, use palavras como: “first” (primeiro), “then” (então, daí) e “next” (em seguida, depois).

First, break the egg. (Primeiro, quebre o ovo.) 

Then, add the flour. (Daí, adicione a farinha) 

After that, heat the pan for two minutes. (Depois disso, aqueça a panela por dois minutos.) 

Forma negativa do imperativo 

Para uma frase negativa no imperativo, usamos “don’t” ou “do not” antes do verbo: 

Do not smoke in the house. (Não fume dentro de casa.) 

Do not let the ball fall. (Não deixe a bola cair.) 

Lembre-se de que o imperativo é usado apenas com o verbo em sua forma infinitiva, nunca conjugado no passado ou na forma contínua.

Present Continuous Tense

O present continuous é formado pelo verbo to  be no presente mais o gerúndio do verbo principal.

Ex.: I am playing football.

AM - verb TO BE

PLAYING - main verb in the gerund (verbo principal no gerúndio)


Observe o verbo read no simple present e no present continuous tense:

I read                                    I am reading

You read                               You ae reading

He, she reads                      He, she is reading  

We read                                we are reading

You read                               You are reading

They read                             They are reading

 

NEGATIVE                           INTERROGATIVE

I am not reading.                 Am I reading?

He, she is not reading.       Is He, she reading?

We are not reading.              Are we reading?

You are not reading.          Are you reading?

They are not reading.         Are they reding?

Can/Could


GRAMMAR

Verbo Can
(verbo Poder)

O verbo Can é auxiliar e defectivo. Significa poder no sentido de capacidade física ou mental. Não recebe s na 3ª pessoa do singular do presente do indicativo.

Present Tense
I can (eu posso)
You can (você pode)
He can (ele pode)
She can (ela pode)
It can (ele/ela pode)
We can (nós podemos)
You can (vocês podem)
They can (eles/elas podem)

Past Tense
I could (eu podia)
You could (você podia)
He could (ele podia)
She could (ela podia)
It could (ele/ela podia)
We could (nós podíamos)
You could (vocês podiam)
They could (eles podiam)


Can posssui três formas negativas

Can not

Cannot

Can’t

A forma negativa de could é

1ª) Supply the correct reflexive pronouns:
    (Coloque o pronome reflexivo correto.)
a)      James drinks too much. He is destroying  ____________________ .

GRAMMAR

PAST CONTINUONS TENSE X SIMPLE PAST

O Past Continous Tense apresenta uma ação que estava acontecendo no passado, que durava enquanto a outra ação acontecia.

FORMAÇÃO: verbo TO BE no passado+ gerúndio do verbo principal.

Ex: He was playing the piano when she arrived.
verbo to be=was
verbo principal=playing

Ex: they were singing a beautiful song when their mother called
verbo to be= were
verbo principal=singing

Observe as frases nas formas afirmativa, negativa e interrogativa.
AFIR: I was cleaning the house when she arrived.
NEG: I was not cleaning the house when she arrived.
NEG.CONT: I wasn’t cleaning the house when she arrived.
INT: Was I cleaning the house when she arrived?

Grammar - Present Perfect Tense

GRAMMAR

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

Formação: VERBO TO HAVE (HAVE-HAS) + VERBO NO PARTICÍPIO PASSADO
OBSERVE ESTAS SENTENÇAS:
·         They have studied the lesson.
·         She has cleaned house.
·         You have worked very well.
·         I have bought many flowers.

AFFIRMATIVE FORM
·         She has stopped the car.

NEGATIVE FORM
·         She has  not stopped the car.
·         She hasn’t stopped the car.

INTERROGATIVE FORM
·         Has she stopped the car?


EMPREGO DO PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

1º_ Para indicar uma ação realizada em tempo indeterminado no passado (sem que determinemos o início ou fim dela).
Ex.: She has played tennis. (Eu tenho jogado tênis.)
                    I have looked for him. (Eu tenho procurado por ele.)

Se a ação é realizada em tempo determinado, no passado, emprega-se o Simple Past.
Ex.: I looked for him yesterday. (Eu procurei por ele ontem.)

2º_ Quando a ação que começou no passado continua ainda a ser feita até o presente momento.
Ex.: You have studied English since 1990. (Você tem estudado inglês desde 1990.)
                    I have looked for him Monday. (Eu tenho procurado por ele desde segunda-feira.)
 3º_ Quando a ação se repete várias vezes no passado.
Ex.: I have telephoned my parents many times. (Eu tenho telefonado para meus pais várias vezes.)
Obs.: As seguintes palavras acompanham com freqüência o Present Perfect : just, ever, never, already, yet,   since, for.

Yet- usado em sentenças negativas.
Already- usado em sentenças negativas e interrogativas.


Examples:
·         He has just arrived. (Ele acabou de chegar.)
·         Have you ever seen a Lion? (Você já viu um leão?)
·         I have never seen a Lion. (Eu nunca vi um leão.)
·         I have already seen a Lion. (Eu já vi um leão.)
·         She hasn’t come yet. (Ela não chegou ainda.)
·         I have lived here for many years. (Eu tenho morado aqui por muitos anos.)

QUESTION TAG

É uma pergunta feita no final da frase, sempre depois de uma vírgula. É uma confirmação da frase anterior. Quando a frase for afirmativa, a question tag será afirmativa e vice-versa.

Examples:
·         They have gone to the cinema, haven’t they?
·         You haven’t made a  cake, have you?
·         He has forgoteen her name, hasn’t he?

·         She hasn’t drunk beer, has she?

Grammar - Conditional Tense

GRAMMAR
CONDITIONAL TENSE (FUTURO DO PRETÉRITO)

Para se formar o futuro do pretérito, basta pôr o auxiliar WOULD antes do verbo principal.
Exemplos:
  • I would buy a car.
  • She would write a letter.
  • Jane would go to the Unites States.

Obs.: Note que não há s na 3ª pessoa do singular.
  • She writes a letter to him.
  • She would write a letter to him.
Pode-se também usar SHOULD pára as primeiras pessoas (I, we):
  • We  should go there by bus.
(Nós iríamos lá de ônibus.)

Observe o verbo TO BUY no futuro do pretérito:
