SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Para exprimir uma ação que aconteceu
num momento definido no passado, usamos o Siple Past Tense de verbos regulares
na forma afirmativa acrescentando-se ED ao infinitivo sem a partícula TO.
Ex.: She worked
yeste rday
No Simple Past Tense, a forma do verbo
é a mesma para todas as pessoas, inclusive para a 3ª pessoa do singular (he,
she, it). Observe a conjugação do verbo TO WORK (trabalhar) no Simple Past
Tense, na forma afirmativa:
I worked
You worked
He worked
She worked
IT worked
We worked
You worked
They worked
FORMA INTERROGATIVA
Para
se fazer perguntas no Simple Past Tense, usamos o auxiliar DID no começo da
frase e o verbo principal volta ao infinitivo sem a partícula TO. Lembre-se de
substituir o ponto final pelo ponto de interrogação.
Ex.: Did you work yesterday?
DID não tem
qualquer significado. É um auxiliar da forma interrogativa. Tem forma única
para todas as pessoas.
TO WORK
Did I work?
Did You work?
Did He work?
Did She work?
Did IT work?
Did We work?
Did You work?
Did They work?
FORMA NEGATIVA
A forma negativa é feita colocando-se
DID NOT entre o sujeito e o verbo, o qual volta à forma do infinitivo sem a
partícula TO. A forma contrata de DID NOT é DIDN’T para todas as pessoas.
TO WORK
I did not work (I didn’t work)
You did not work (You didn’t work)
He did not work (He didn’t work)
She did not work (She didn’t work)
IT did not work (IT didn’t work)
We did not work (We didn’t work)
You did not work (You didn’t work)
They

Casos especiais de alguns verbos
regulares no Simple Present Tense.
Há dois casos em que os verbos
regulares sofrem transformações na grafia quando se acrescento a grafia ed.
Esses casos são:
1.
Quando o verbo termina em e, acrescenta-se
somente o d.
Ex: to dance – danced
to decide – decided
2. Quando o
verbo termina em Y, precedido de consoante, troca-se o Y por i
e acrescenta-se ed.
Ex.: to study – studied
To
try – tried
Obs: Quando o y
é precedido de vogal, acrescenta-se ed.
Ex.: to play –
played
